Our Theme for 2009 - Forward, Onward, Upward for Christ

St. Paul wrote to the Thessalonian Christians: “because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake” (1 Thess. 1:5). We are convinced that the strength of the church, as well as that of the family and all other communities, depends on Christian men who fulfill their God-given callings in life.

Listed below are many opportunities for men to gather together for fellowship, both through the Word, but also through the enjoyment of common interests such as basketball, softball, etc. Check it out, and if you think of something we aren’t doing, send Pastor Truwe an email (gtruwe@mountcalvarysa.org) and let him know about your idea. Have fun looking around!

Annual Men’s Retreat

We had our first annual men’s retreat in May of 2008 at Camp LoneStar in LaGrange, TX. 20 men of Mt. Calvary attended, and had a wonderful time.

This year’s retreat is scheduled for May 16-17, again at Camp LoneStar. Josh Zammit, our D.C.E. and Pastor Truwe are already working with the Board of Education to plan an even better 2nd Annual Men’s Retreat. The theme we have chosen is The Holy Trinity, and there will be plenty of time for food and fellowship. Register today, and reserve your spot on this year’s retreat. Just send an email to mtcalvary@mountcalvarysa.org.

The men’s softball team at Mt. Calvary plays on Friday nights in the spring (beginning in March) and fall (beginning in Septemeber). We play our games at Alva Jo Fischer complex located at 10700 Nacogdoches. If softball is your thing, just let Pastor Truwe know (gtruwe@mountcalvarysa.org) and he’ll make sure you are included in the next season. This is also a great opportunity for affordable family entertainment. We’re always fun to watch and may be the cheapest ticket in town—adult admission is $1. Our spring schedule will be posted as soon as it is released.

We are hoping to have a coed softball team this coming summer, also playing games at Alva Jo Fischer softball complex on Friday nights. This would be a great time for family fun, or to just enjoy the fellowship of a mixed group. At this point we are especially in need of females.
