The Music Ministry at Mount Calvary

We have a new Music Director at Mt. Calvary, and his name is Jon Eifert.  He will begin to appear regularly on the organ bench in August, and will begin directing the Mt. Calvary choirs and other ensembles during that same month.  To help us get to know a little about him, we proudly present the

 

TOP TEN TIDBITS ABOUT THE NEW MUSIC GUY…

 

  • Is a graduate of Concordia River Forest (now Chicago) where he studied church music under Carl Schalk, amongst others.
  • Has spent sixteen years of his career as a parish musician.
  • Is married to Mary, the principal of St. Paul Lutheran School in Austin.  They have two children, both attending Concordia Academy, Austin.
  • Has a great respect for the liturgy and music of the Lutheran Church, and loves to share this with all parishioners.
  • Has been a featured presenter at several workshops sponsored by the LC-MS Commission on Worship, most recently at the nationwide gathering of pastors and musicians held in Seward, NE in the summer of 2008.
  • Is soon to be completing his D. M. A. in Organ Performance at U. T.  (Watch for information about upcoming recitals!)
  • Came to Texas after growing up in Michigan and teaching in the states of Washington, Minnesota, and Wisconsin; still remembers the comment from the sermon at his wedding, “Who knows how many miles your career in church work will take you?”
  • Has been an instructor in the Commission’s Lutheran Musician Enrichment program.  This program is specifically aimed at improving the theological and musical background of practicing parish musicians from across the country.
  • Comes from a long line of church workers.  His grandfather was from a family of twelve; eight of the brothers were LC-MS pastors.
  • Is expecting YOU to be at the first choir rehearsal.  (Watch the bulletin for specific announcements about dates and times!)
